The RTU is the link between the protection relays (IEDs) and primary equipment in the field and the control centre. Our RTU engineering work spans preparing signal lists, loading configurations, establishing communication with IEDs and mapping signals to SCADA.
On the SEDAŞ Cyber Security Project we removed the existing Siemens SICAM TM CP-6014 and CPCX65 RTUs at 152 substations and migrated them to Hitachi Energy RTU530 systems. At solar PV sites in the KCETAŞ region we established communication with Schneider Electric Easergy P3 relays through Siemens SICAM A8000 CP-8031 RTUs.
Most of the work in an RTU project is invisible in the field: the signal list that defines which signal comes from which bay at which address, the RTU configuration and the SCADA database in the control centre must match one to one. We prepare the signal list from field information, build the RTU configuration from that list and verify the SCADA mapping against the same list, so address and label mismatches are caught before commissioning.
We set up IEC 61850-based communication between protection relays (IEDs) and the RTU and verify every IED's status, alarm, measurement and control signals with communication and function tests. In migration projects that replace legacy RTUs, we carry the existing signal structure over to the new platform and handle removal, installation and commissioning substation by substation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an RTU and what does it do in a substation?
An RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) collects signals from the breakers, disconnectors and protection relays (IEDs) in a substation, sends them to the control-centre SCADA system and applies commands from the centre in the field. Remote monitoring and control of the network depends on a correctly configured RTU.
Which RTU platforms do you work with?
We have carried out engineering, configuration and commissioning on Hitachi Energy RTU530, Siemens SICAM A8000 CP-8031 and Siemens SICAM TM CP-6014 RTUs, and set up communication with ABB REX615 and Schneider Electric Easergy P3 relays on the IED side.
Do you migrate legacy RTUs to new-generation systems?
Yes. In the SEDAŞ Cyber Security Project we removed the existing Siemens SICAM TM CP-6014 and CPCX65 RTUs in 152 substations and migrated them to Hitachi Energy RTU530 systems, carrying the signal structure over and commissioning each substation after end-to-end testing.
How is communication between the RTU and protection relays verified?
We check every IED's status, alarm, measurement and control signals with communication and function tests, then confirm with field–RTU–SCADA point-to-point (PtP) tests that each signal appears correctly in the control centre.
